"This isn’t a book you’re likely to ever use as a reference or read more than once. It’s more of a coffee table book with numerous, short profiles of individual homebrewers from all over the world. The profiles are more about the people than about homebrewing process, technique, or equipment, with each profile coming in at around 600 words. (For reference, this review is 395 words.) The profiles generally focus on the personal backgrounds of each brewer and their inspirations for doing what they do. Altogether, this book covers a diverse group of people from all over the globe.
That also makes this book very approachable and easy to read. You can pick it up, leaf to any page, and take 5 minutes to read a different profile. There’s no narrative to worry about, and can be completed over the course of an enjoyable few hours in one sitting or several.
The hardcover binding makes for great presentation. The photos are high quality and plentiful, occupying probably more total space in this book than actual text. Two photos in particular caught my eye: page 106, which shows some poor guy’s entire phone number, and page 205, which if you examine the background close enough, reveals . . . well, you’ll just have to find it (but don’t show the kids).
You won’t pick up any technical advice or techniques, other than general inspiration like, “don’t be afraid of failure†and similar platitudes. This book’s description might make you think you’re going to get detailed answers to the following questions: “What equipment do they use? Where do they find storage space? What are their hopping techniques, yeast strategies, and aging methods? How do they keep temperatures constant without sophisticated climate controls?†But the answers are really just presented in passing and are for the most part pretty obvious. For example, one dude in China ferments in Corny kegs because they’re cheaper than glass carboys. Another in San Francisco uses her back porch at night to keep carboys cool. And so on. These techniques are not used because they make better beer, they’re used because each homebrewer adapts to their own specific life circumstances.
If you’re looking for technical advice and practical methods that individual homebrewers at the top of their game use to make great beer, read “Homebrew All Stars†by Drew Beechum and Denny Conn."

I really dug this glimpse of what's happening in Europe, South America, Asia etc., not many books cover the international homebrew scene and it's pretty awesome to realize that there definitely is one, and it's bangin! Some great recipes as well, I've flagged a bunch to incorporate for upcoming brew days.
- A great book depicting the ultra cool world of homebrewing. Not so much as a how to brew, but covers a variety home brewers around the world and their unique setups,styles,passion, and goals. On the plus side there as some super cool recipes. It's could also be a great gift to people just into craft beer, it's a fun read and has a wonderfull gallery of pictures so it could double as a hip coffee table book.
