"I needed this book for class. I found it easy to read and each chapter contained examples from actual case managers and social workers. The text goes from how case management developed from charitable organizations in the 19th century to departments funded at the state and federal level. It goes into great detail the step by step process that the case manager or social worker must undertake with the applicant/client, from the intake interview to coordination of services with other service providers. An excellent read, an excellent textbook."

Generalist Case Management A Method of Human Service Delivery Marianne R Woodside Tricia McClam Books Reviews
- This textbook is bizarre. It never ceases to amaze me how a field which should understand the value of plain-language education (Human Services) continues to churn out monstrosities like this in an attempt to "teach" case management principles. Rather than what would actually make sense - a book based 90% on the process of actual case management using examples-, the book is light on this sort of information, and reads like confusing instructions on a form one must fill out. I guess on some level this is appropriately ironic, but it's reallyannoying that a down to earth skill like case management is handled as if it's some set of hard to grasp abstract principles.
Particularly if you are a Human Services, Chemical Dependency, or other student already working in the field, I predict you will find this book nearly useless in terms of actual case management, and will need to just to extract the pointless answers for the pointless questions asked in your case management class, and for that, I guess it works. - I needed this book for my college class. This book was easy to read. The fact that each chapter contained examples from actual case managers and social workers made learning so much easier! This book covers everything that you will need to know about Case Management the step by step process that the case manager or social worker must undertake with the applicant/client and even the intake interview to coordination of services with other service providers. There is background history on case management developed from charitable organizations in the 19th century to departments funded at the state and federal level. History on something is always a good thing to know -- why else should be be doing something? We need to know why and how it started to understand it better! It provides you with the fundamental skills and information you need to coordinate and provide services to a variety of populations.Being able to work with a variety of populations is SO important in the field. Being able to take part in activities in this book is also a huge part in learning.

- This was the worst textbook I have ever had to deal with. Misspellings and grammatical errors galore! I’m not entirely sure how this textbook made it through a proof read? Also, fellow students, if you’re a smoker and you rent textbooks, please have the curtesy to think about the person who will have that book after you.
