"My husband & I have sailed on this ship. The book was interesting. Ofcource the authors made very different choices (we always chose a balcony cabin we chose to dine at the same time, with the same wait staff & the same people at our table every night, we took ship sponsored excisions at every port.). I wish the authors were more open about the advantages of the other choices. They seemed surprised at the extra costs. Most people are not. Did they not use the pools on the ship. If I had never cruised, (I've taken 4 cruises). I might think after reading this book that cruising was boring. It's not. I read constantly, yet I do not recall reading much on any cruise. I liked learning about the Canal (never been there). The ship was FUN."

- The authors make it clear that purpose of this book was to review the food on a Holland America Panama Canal cruise. I was hoping I was going to learn suggestions about what to do in the ports of call but they pretty much walked around in town (which I have no problem with) with the exception of Costa Rica where they wrote a detailed positive description about a tour they signed up for on the boat. If you've never taken cruise before and plan to take one on Holland America, then I'm sure you will probably learn some tips about what to do on those days at sea. You'll certainly learn about the desserts, the various places to dine or snack on the ship, classes they took and onboard entertainment venues.
- Live life to the fullest and start checking off your bucket list!
After being hit by a car at a red light Co-Authors, Sunny and Al Lockwood decided it was time to start checking off some the items on their bucket list. What a better way to do so then with a cruise transiting the Panama Canal?
In short, “Cruising Panama’s Canal†reads like a journal / diary of sorts where a 17 day journey is meticulously calculated with lavish description and detail. Everything, from sweet deserts, to the ships layout, to the building of the Panama Canal is perfectly presented in a way that will place you in the heart of incredible tip to Panama. I should mention that I have had the opportunity to visit Panama in the past and can vouch for the beauty that is described in this book. My only regret is that I wish this book could have been available for me back then. Without a doubt this astounding book will paint a vivid picture that will captivate your imagination as it sweeps on a 17-day voyage that will take you from San Francisco all the way down to Panama.
If you’re a baby boomer, an active retiree, someone who loves to travel and has the time to do it, then this is simply the book for you. Be forewarned, this book is not your average travel guide. In-fact it is on a level all on its own. Both Authors are extremely versed in travel. Sunny is an editor and seasoned author while Al is a pilot, engineer, a minister, and veteran photographer. I mention this so that you are confident on the quality of writing and professionalism you receive when reading this amazing book.
I definitely need to dust off own bucket list and can only vote 5 Stars for Sunny and Al Lockwood. - I enjoyed this book, and even though I'm a "senior" of the AARP set, I'm still into ziplining, hiking, and paddleboarding, so that cruise would not be good for us. I'm glad I found that out. I appreciate the things I learned from your delightful cruise and what to expect. I've read "The Path Between the Seas The Creation of the Panama Canal 1870-1914" by David McCullough and thought that was an excellent book on it. Now that I know what to expect on the ship with classes, shows, etc., I would have liked to have read so much more on each port of call. The author did touch on these but I would have loved to read further details. Like I was expecting to hear something about Colon, Panama, the Caribbean end of the Canal. I liked the conversation with the chef and how much food a cruise takes, and I also liked hearing about the different kinds of foods. But perhaps, only perhaps I felt that the primary focus might be the food choices on the cruise which I kind of skimmed through, rather than the ports.. However, there were some great tips in this book, such as shore excursions. Their experiences will influence the way I plan my next cruise and what liner I'll choose, so all considered I'm giving this 5 stars!

- This little book changed my mind about cruising. I don't think we would go on just any cruise but we just might try one if we have the chance. The cruising industry has been getting a bad rap lately, and for good reason, however, I think if you are careful and do your research as Al and Sunny did, you can find the perfect cruise. This book doesn't pull any punches. If something wasn't up to par, or they felt it was substandard, they said so, and I appreciated that. All in all I'd say this is a must read for those of us who have never been on a cruise and are considering one. Read this before you go and you'll know what to expect and what, most importantly to me, what is included in the price of your cruise and what costs extra. I think I'd opt for an Alaskan cruise myself, the heat and humidity described isn't my idea of fun.
